Digital Night Photography: Finding Your Way In The Dark with Scott Martin and Lance Keimig at the Pearl Brewery Complex on the Riverwalk.
Sat 5:30p-12:30a
Lance is offering participants of the Nightime Workshop the Nighttime Photography: Finding Your Way in the Dark book by Lance Keimig and Scott Martin at a discounted rate of $29.95 per book if pre-ordered.
New technologies in photography have made Night Photography more accessible and popular than ever. Digital cameras allow for instant feedback that can serve as a guide for determining exposures, but there is more to successful night photography than Just exposure. Lighting, contrast, atmosphere, equipment choices, and subject matter at night are some of the things this class will cover.
During the workshop, you will explore the world of Night Photography, with digital SLR cameras while walking around the Pearl Brewery Complex, a125 year old landmark undergoing a transformation from historic brewery to an iconic culinary and cultural gathering place on 22 acres. This one night workshop is designed to be a quick introduction to the joys of making photographs at night. We will start with classroom instruction at 5:30pm before heading around the complex after dark to make images. We have arranged to have access to some of our favorite areas, including areas that are typically restricted. Participants can shoot side-by-side with the instructors or wander around to discover their own images. Expect Lance and Scott to give a few light painting demonstrations in the field. When out at night, participants can stay out shooting as long as they, or their camera’s batteries, hold out. Shooting by moonlight, light painting, multi-hour exposures, and equipment recommendations will all be discussed. Because this workshop has two instructors, each participant will get lots of attention.
Lance Keimig is a Pembroke, Masssachusetts based photographer who is best known for night photography of the built environment. He is currently writing a book on Night Photography that will be published by Focal Press in 2010. Keimig is the curator of Darkness, Darkness, a traveling exhibit of Night Photography and of the Three Columns Gallery at Harvard University. He has taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, The Photographic Resource Center at Boston University, and the New England School of Photography in Boston, and also leads workshops in California, Texas, Massachusetts, Ireland, and Scotland. Keimig founded the Mono Lake Photo Workshops in California, and is also cofounder of The Nocturnes Night Photography Workshops in San Francisco. www.thenightskye.com.
