Texas Photographic Society's
Our Town: Odessa
Keep me informed about the Our Town: Series
To Register for Our Town: Odessa
Over 16,000 towns and 1,200 incorporated cities are listed in the Texas Almanac. The places are as varied as the Texas landscape. To celebrate the people and places of Texas, the Texas Photographic Society (TPS) will hold three sequential photographic workshops in designated cities. Each year, TPS plans to host 3 or more workshops in cities and small towns throughout the state.
Odessa is the second TPS destination, preceded by Amarillo. Future workshops are planned for Longview and Abilene. Each workshop location will culminate with a local exhibition. An exhibit catalogue has been published for Our Town: Amarillo exhibit and will be published for Our Town: Odessa exhibit. While this program will concentrate on Odessa, anyone may take the workshops and enter the exhibition which will take place this Fall.
The strength of the Our Town project is Texans interpreting the uniqueness of their immediate area. Participants will be encouraged to take the local workshops, but this will not be necessary for inclusion in the exhibit/catalogue. The workshops will be held in the Photography Department at Odessa College.
The High Dynamic Range Images Workshop will be the third edition of Our Town: Odessa workshop series. More workshops are planned in the future.

HDRI-Concepts and Practice
Two-day. Sat & Sun April 10 & 11, 9:00a-5:00p.
The year 2000 ushered in a host of changes. For photographers the changes were huge and they are still coming. The release of Nikon’s D1 SLR with a 2.7MB sensor at less than half the price of the Kodak DCS 2MB camera was a major event. Now, ten years later, we are seeing SLR’s with over 20MB sensors and a laundry list of incredible features.
During this same time period there have been equally dramatic advances in image processing software. Today photographers have the capability to capture available light images that were virtually impossible in the past.
This workshop will provide participants a basic workflow for selecting, capturing and processing multi-shot High Dynamic Range Images (HDRI). Instruction will include both classroom and field presentations.
Topics include:
- Problems with “available light” photography
- HDRI-Theory, Applications and Limitations
- Evaluating scenes for HDR captures
- Camera setup and shooting techniques
- Image transfers, organization and processing in Lightroom
- Other multi-image software options
- Special Interest HDR-Single Image, Action, Panoramas
Supplies
- SLR Camera with the capability of shooting in Aperture priority mode and with automatic exposure bracketing (AEB). Bring your manual if your not comfortable with these settings.
- Tripod for sure and cable release if you have one.
- A small portable external hard drive to transport your images back home.
- If you are going to use your own laptop, make sure you have Lightroom 2.0 and Photomatix Pro 3.0 installed. (Trial versions are available on-line)
